Recently, the CIC Chairman, Ir Prof. Thomas HO, led industry leaders made a Cross-Company Safety Visit to the MTR Contract 1635- Northern Link (NOL)  Package 1 undertaken by China Road and Bridge Corp. During the visit, Mr. Dominic LAW, Head of Project Delivery - Northern Link (Phase 1) of MTR Corporation Limited, and Mr. WANG Yanhua, Managing Director of China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), led a sharing session, showcasing a range of innovative safety initiatives, including:

✅ Design for Safety (DfS) through an optimised circular TBM shaft design that reduces temporary works, heavy lifting operations and manual assembly activities;
✅ "No CCTV, No Work" and smart site monitoring to enhance real-time safety oversight;
✅ Cold Cut Technology to minimise sparks, heat generation and burn risks;
✅ Safety accountability system to reinforce a zero-tolerance safety culture;
✅ Worker well-being initiatives, including heat stress prevention measures and enhanced welfare facilities such as laundry and shower facilities.
 
With its proximity to the neighbouring residential area, the project team employed multiple measures to reduce nuisance, including dust control equipment, cleaning robot, work schedule adjustments and noise reduction.
 
Representatives from other main contractors also shared valuable experiences and insights during the discussion.
