The Outstanding Structure Award, established in 1998, has a 27-year history to date. It is divided into two categories: Project Award and R&D Award. It evaluates structural projects completed in the past two years in terms of engineering schemes, innovation, uniqueness, constructability, safety, economy, sustainability and aesthetics, aiming to recognize outstanding achievements in the field of structural engineering.
This year, a total of 4 local projects, 2 mainland/overseas projects and 1 research paper won the award. The Tseung Kwan O Waterfront Promenade Southern Bridge stood out and won the award by virtue of its wave-shaped deck design, S690 high-strength steel welding technology, as well as two innovative construction schemes—Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) and "Stepping-over Erection Method".
This is the second annual major award for the project, following the HKIE Civil Engineering Excellence Award it won in October, fully demonstrating CRBC’s professional strength in structural engineering and innovative construction technologies.
