On 22 July, CRBC Joint Venture was awarded the contract for the Hong Kong East Drainage Tunnel (HKEDT) by Drainage Service Department of HKSAR.

The works mainly include construction of a drainage tunnel of about 3.6 kilometres in length and about five metres in diameter from Shau Kei Wan and Chai Wan to Pak Sha Wan; construction of seven intakes and connection adits, and construction of an outfall and ancillary works.
The main tunnel of HKEDT will be constructed by a combination of Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) and Drill and Blast (D&B) methods. HKEDT will intercept the stormwater from the upstream catchment of approximately 262 hectares for direct discharge to the sea, thus alleviating the flood risk in Eastern District and protecting a population of about 150,000, further strengthening flood resilience across Hong Kong Island.
