The float-over installation technology is an extremely ingenious bridge engineering technique. It was successfully developed by CRBC (HK) on the Tseung Kwan O Cross Bay Link Bridge for the erection of 12,000-tonne main bridge, enabling integrated fabrication, transportation and installation of the large steel bridge, setting an industry record. Featuring with high efficiency, precise installation, sound structural safety and low impact on marine traffic and the environment, the method offers an efficient and innovative solution for long-span bridge construction, serving as an important benchmark for its wider application in bridge engineering.
We innovatively adopted Float-over Method for the main bridge construction of Tseung Kwan O Cross Bay Link Bridge in Hong Kong. Leveraging its core strengths of high efficiency, precision and safety, the method enables the integrated installation of the main bridge, breaking the bottlenecks of conventional lifting technology and demonstrating our technical strength in the field of large-scale cross-sea engineering.
This technology greatly shortens the construction period, mitigates operational risks and minimised environmental impact, aligning with Hong Kong’s low-carbon construction vision. It also provides valuable practical experience for the future adoption of the Float-over Method in Hong Kong’s cross-sea infrastructure projects, driving the industry toward higher efficiency, safety and green development.
